USTR exempts STS crane orders arriving by May, 2026 from 25% tariff
NewsUnder new rules from the US Trade Representative, ship-to-shore cranes ordered before May 14, 2024, and arriving by May 14, 2026, will avoid a 25% tariff on imports from China.
Remote-controlled quay cranes are technically possible, and are best suited to double trolley cranes at automated terminals.
ABB and Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) demonstrated a remote-controlled STS crane during TOC Americas in Panama recently. The two companies started this project seven years ago and the work has developed to the point where MIT uses the crane as part of its regular operation.
