Canadian rail networks prepare for shut down
NewsAs Canada heads towards a nationwide rail strike CN and CPKC have stopped accepting certain cargo types as they prepare their Canadian networks for a full shutdown.
Italian logistics company Fercam AG, based in Bozen (South Tyrol), recently ordered 93 Cargo Rails piggyback trailers from leading European trailer builder Kögel Trailer GmbH & Co KG in Germany, for use in regular transalpine (via Brenner) unaccompanied combi-traffic services. The new fleet includes both replacements and additions to the Fercam intermodal trailer fleet.
The trailers are equipped with a reinforced chassis frame, with the DIN pick-up points integrated into the frame, and pick-up jaw tarpaulin protection made from aramid fabric. For optimal load-securing, the VarioFix perforated steel external frame is equipped with 13 pairs of lashing rings, each ring affording 2,000 kg of tensile force. The trailers are certified in accordance with DIN EN 12642 Code XL and, as with all Kögel trailers, the entire frame has long-term corrosion protection based on nano cathodic dip-paint coating.
At Fercam’s request, the trailers are equipped in accordance with Daimler Directive 9.5 for transport of automotive components. This includes pallet stops and end wall doubling and, as a standard option, an upward folding and lockable steel underride guard, along with aluminium air tanks. A fire extinguisher with a pressure indicator and corresponding bracket are also installed as another optional accessory on the side member.
