CargoBeamer doubles its cross-France piggy-back service
NewsAn innovative rail-based landbridge service down the spine of France is to double frequency on the back of demand from road operators.
The long-awaited VIIA (ex-Lorry-Rail) intermodal rail service for Turkey’s Ekol Logistics service between Sète and Paris (Noisy-le-Sec) is finally under way
While the Port of Sète is on the point of announcing the operator of its new deep water Quay H and backlands, the VIIA (SNCF Logistics) Lorry-Rail (low slung swinging load bed Modalohr wagons) for Turkey's EKOL Logistics is finally under way, almost a year later than originally planned.
Initially there is one shuttle connection per week. The train, which caters for P400 gauge, departs from Sète on Wednesday morning and arrives in Paris on Thursday at 07.00h. The southbound service departs at 18.00h on Wednesday and arrives in Sète on Thursday at 12.00h.
In 2014 Ekol launched a weekly service between Izmir and Sète with a 48-hour transit time and an intake of 180 unaccompanied trailers. Ekol is a firm advocate of sea-rail logistics and already runs 44 weekly train pairs connecting Ludwighsaven and Köln in Germany and Ostrava in the Czech Republic with its ro-ro vessels in the Port of Trieste.
In December frequency of the VIIA service to Paris will be doubled to two weekly pairs and could be further increased next year as Ekol plans to add a second vessel to the Izmir-Sète service.
