Multi Modal Rail is set to introduce a weekly intermodal rail pair between Antwerp and Metz
Strasbourg-based Multi Modal Rail is to introduce a new weekly rail shuttle between the Port of Antwerp and the inland port of Metz in France. After a number of trials, MMR has decided to commit to a fixed day, weekly connection between Antwerp and Metz. The new shuttle is the first direct, fast and frequent rail connection for Metz and will open up the larger Lorraine area to the port of Antwerp through an environmental friendly mode of transport. In Antwerp the shuttle will cover all deep sea terminals as well as empty depots.
For shippers in the greater Lorraine area, says MMR, the new shuttle will offer a cost-efficient, fast and environmental friendly alternative for road and barge transport.
Unlike barge services, the connection is not liable to disruption from Rhine water levels.
Benjamin Hottier, General Manager of MMR says: ‘We have done a thorough market study and have extensive dialogue with all major shipping lines as well as freight forwarders and larger shippers. Reactions have been very positive on this new connection, including the capability of MMR to offer last mile trucking from and to the Metz intermodal facility.”
The rail service is provided through a sister company, Netherlands-based Logistics Intermodal Services BV.
MMR plans to increase the frequency during Q2 2017 to two or three pairs per week, which would create perfect coverage and frequency for its customers.
MMR offers intermodal logistic solutions by rail, barge and truck for shipping lines, forwarders and direct shippers.
