Hannibal introducses Milan-Lyons service
Hannibal, the multimodal operator within Contship Italia group, has launched a three pairs/week service between Contship’s Rail Hub Milano at Milan Melzo and Vénissieux, for Lyon
Northbound departures from Milan are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with southbounds on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays/Sundays.
Hannibal hopes the service will be an attractive to transalpine trucking. Margins are very thin in the trucking business and road tunnel tolls at Mont Blanc and the Fréjus were increased by 2.73% at the start of this year. In addition, all trucks above 7.5 tonnes that do not meet Euro 4 emissions standard have been banned from the routes.
“The intermodal option offers a solution to the driver shortage problem, which is preoccupying logistics operators and shippers throughout Europe,” added Hannibal.
“An intelligent combination of rail and road on medium and long haul trips can reduce road congestion, CO2 and pollutants emissions and provide reliable service for goods transportation, offering the efficiency of point to point rail with the flexibility of trucks for “last mile” collection and delivery.”
