European box builders fight on

After many years of decline, the European container manufacturing industry has experienced a slight revival in demand during 2004. Its improved fortunes can be attributed both to a stronger market and the surge in global container production costs. The European sector has benefited from the recent rise in the cost of steel and other raw materials, which have forced the dominant Chinese box construction industry to increase dry freight container prices by over 50 per cent in less than six months.
