More automated RTGs for Konecranes

News

Konecranes has announced a repeat order for nine further automated RTGs for Terminal Petikemas Semarang in Indonesia.

Just over a year ago Konecranes signed an agreement to deliver an automated RTG (ARTG) system to PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Pelindo III) for its Terminal Petikemas Semarang (TPKS) facility in Central Java.

That system comprised 11 ARTGS, Remote Operating Stations (ROSs) and container yard automation infrastructure including “intelligent container stack gates” to manage truck traffic under automated cranes. Pelindo III has now ordered a further nine additional ARTGs.

Pelindo III is proceeding with this further order at TPKS on the basis of the success of its first automation project, at Lamong Bay in Surabaya East Java. This terminal uses uses Konecranes STS and ASC cranes together with a combination of Konecranes straddle carriers and Gaussin Automotive Terminal Tractors, and was formally opened in May.

“We are very pleased and proud of the latest order,” said Janne Eklund, Konecranes’ Sales Manager, Port Cranes, speaking about the new TPKS contract. “The proof from this green field terminal in Lamong Bay, Surabaya, has convinced Pelindo III to proceed with the next phase of TPKS, converting half of the existing manual RTG yard into an automated system with personnel access and horizontal traffic control. Pelindo III appreciates production stability, increased safety, greater productivity and better predictability – all characteristics associated with Konecranes automation.”

Konecranes is supplying all aspects of the automation system (except the TOS) as part of its “next generation automation platform”. “After the delivery of this order TPKS will have a total of 20 cabin-less Konecranes ARTGs operating in 10 automated blocks” the company added.

“Konecranes’ automation system is easy to operate and maintain, even the calibration process has been thoroughly redefined. Remote operator ergonomics is beyond comparison, thanks to Konecranes’ informative-rich graphical user interface,” highlights Robby Dayoh, Senior Manager, Pelindo III.
