King Abdul Aziz Port sets monthly throughput record in February

In February 2024, King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, the second-largest port in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, set a new record in its operational history.

The port handled 235,820 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), an increase of 25.41% when compared to its previous throughput of 166,956 TEUs in 2023.

The Saudi Ports Authority ascribed the record-breaking performance to its relentless efforts in bolstering the port’s development.

Incoming container statistics reached 142,673 TEUs, which signifies a substantial 48.95% increase when compared to the same period in 2023 when it stood at 95,787 TEUs. Meanwhile, outgoing container statistics witnessed a commendable uptick of 24.67%, totaling 86,250 TEUs compared to 69,184 TEUs the previous year.

Moreover, ship traffic saw an impressive spike, soaring by 247.46% to 6,897 ships, in stark contrast to the 1,985 ships handled in 2023.

The port, boasting 43 fully serviced and equipped berths, has the capacity to handle up to 105 million tons of goods and TEUs.

In addition, the port is getting a new shipping service that will connect it to Southeast Asia and India.

Namely, Singapore-based shipping and logistics firm VASI Shipping Pte Ltd has introduced the new shipping service ‘IMS’ at King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam. This service aims to enhance its strategic partnerships with major international shipping lines and supports the movement of exports and imports.

The new shipping service links King Abdul Aziz Port with five regional and international ports, including Klang in Malaysia, Surabaya and Jakarta in Indonesia, Nhava Sheva in India, and Jebel Ali in the UAE. These connections are facilitated through regular weekly trips, with a capacity of up to 1,800 TEUs.
