Duisburg Gateway Terminal launched
NewsThe Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) has officially opened following the completion of its first construction phase.
The terminal will be operated exclusively with crane systems and vehicles without fossil fuels, sidestepping conventional terminal equipment.
INFORM, a Germany-based AI and optimization software company has announced the collaboration with the Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT).
INFORM will implement its Intermodal TOS at DGT, leveraging a modular design that enables a high degree of automation and operational optimization.
Key features include barge handling, crane optimization, optimized train loading, stack optimization, billing module integration, and booking platform interface.
DGT is touted as the first 100% climate-neutral inland container terminal located in the European hinterlands.
Furthermore, DGT is on track to establish itself as the largest intermodal terminal in the European hinterland, with an ambitious annual throughput goal of 850,000 TEU. The first construction phase of the terminal will open in the summer of 2024.
The terminal will be operated exclusively with crane systems and vehicles without fossil fuels, sidestepping conventional terminal equipment to minimize its environmental impact.
Covering 235,000 square meters in total handles up to 1 million containers per year across its six cranes and 12 rail tracks, with daily operations for 20 trains, around 400 trucks, and 6 ships.
Last year PSA International Pte Ltd (PSA), headquartered in Singapore, signed agreements to acquire a 22 percent minority stake in DGT, joining Hupac, HTS (Dutch inland shipping group) and Duisport as shareholders of DGT.
Earlier in 2023, Duisport announced that it was looking for a new strategic partner after Cosco pulled out of the project, forcing the port company to take back Cosco’s 30% share.
