Port security funding

The U.S. awards US$148 million in grants for port air quality improvements, focusing on electrification and reduction of truck emissions.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration is offering $500 million in funding for port upgrades, as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

As part of an Executive Order aimed at strengthening maritime cyber-security, the Biden Administration plans to invest over US$20B over the next five years in port infrastructure including funds for recreating the domestic port crane industry

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) is to receive US$73.77M from the federal government to support the development of its Louisiana International Terminal (LIT). LIT is to be built as the port’s new container gateway and to facilitate cargo movements on the Mississippi River and inland waterways of the United States.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has started work on a U$220M expenditure programme that will radically improve access to/from Port Newark’s northern gate.

Most of the grants will go towards infrastructure, but there is direct funding for new port equipment
