Transhipment cargo is notoriously “fickle” but several new terminals backed by global port operators are set to make the fight for transhipment traffic even more competitive in coming years. Throughput at Busan grew 10 per cent in 2004 to reach 11.4 mill TEU and the port is looking to the Pusan Newport (PNC) development to cement its place as a hub port for services to China and Japan.
