Strong doubts have emerged about the prospects of Canadabased Conforce International Ltd taking over Albania’s most important seaport, the Port of Durres.

Canadian container terminal and depot operator Conforce International has entered into negotiations with the Albanian government for the right to manage the government-owned and operated Port of Durres, the country’s main seaport and the second largest industrial centre in Albania.

HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH, part of HHLA, has won a contract to advise the Albanian Ministry of Transport (MoT) on the privatisation of the Port of Durres, including development of criteria for a concession agreement. The contract, financed by the World Bank, is valid for 19 months and includes the secondment of three HPC experts to Durres.
