Kazakhstan plans new China-Russia transit route
NewsKazakhstan is developing a new trade route from China to Russia via the Irtysh River, with a port and railway planned, aiming for completion by 2026.
Russia’s national Container Company (NCC) has reported that aggregate throughput in its terminals in January-September 2009 amounted to 737,759 TEU, 17% down on the period January-September 2008.
These figures do not include the out-of-service Ukrtranscontainer (UTC) facility in the Ukrainian port of Ilyichevsk, where all operations have been put on hold since June due to the unsettled dispute with the local seaport administration (see p32).
