ABP, px to develop Clean Growth Hub at Port of Barry

Royal Boskalis Westminster NV has been awarded a €35M contract by Associated British Ports for the capital dredging of the approach channel to the port of Southampton
The dredging works is due to commence shortly and involves deepening the 40 kms long approach channel. A total arond 3M m3 of hard clay, sand and gravel will be removed over a 12 month period. Medium sized trailing suction hopper dredgers along with backhoe dredgers will be deployed. Customized working methods and continuous monitoring will be applied in order to meet the stringent environmental requirements.
As port owner Associated British Ports is paying for the work, although it does own a 49% stake in Southampton Container Terminal. ABP is also paying for the new cranes that will be deployed at the fourth deep sea berth already under construction. At the start of this year ABP awarded Boskalis the contract to widen and deepen a critical part of the access channel to the container terminal.
