The Port of Melbourne is investing in Webb Dock East to accommodate more business and larger ships.

A contract has been awarded to Fitzgerald Construction Australia to demolish a redundant concrete section and extend the quay line by 71m to accommodate two vessels. The work is due for completion in Q3 2023.

In addition, terminal operator VICT will invest A$235M in infrastructure and new equipment. Tim Vancampen, CEO of VICT, said that the investment includes two new STS container cranes, taking its total to seven, six automated shuttle carriers and six ASCs.

The Webb Dock East project is the third of nine projects making up Melbourne’s ‘Port Development Strategy 2050’.
