New LNG ro-pax ferry

News-in-print

Tallink Group has signed a €230M contract with the Meyer Turku Oy shipyard in Finland for a new LNG carpassenger fast ferry for its HelsinkiTallinn shuttle service.

The SECAcompliant dualfuel vessel will be 212m long and have a passenger capacity of 2,800. Service speed for the 49,000 gt ferry is 27 knots. Delivery is slated for 2017.

Tallink will make a down payment of 20% and announce the details of the entire finance programme at a later stage. The hull is designed to minimise the flow resistance and ensure effective operations in ice conditions. The contract for the complete roro cargo access and handling equipment has been awarded by Meyer Turku to MacGregor, part of Cargotec. The package includes a bow door, bow and stern ramps/doors, front and rampway doors, hoistable and movable ramps, lifting platform, stores hatches, doors for passengers, pilots and bunkering, along with associated hydraulic power packs.
