CLdN trebles up Rotterdam – Dublin sailings
NewsCLdN from landlocked Luxembourg makes a big splash with even more Rotterdam – Dublin cargo sailings.
The Board of CLdN has decided to charter BORE SEA and thus add a third vessel to its Rotterdam/Iberian Peninsula service, with effect from 24th October
CLdN began serving the Iberian region only in Q4 2013, but says it has seen a rapid and consistent growth in the Rotterdam-Leixōes service. Originally CLdN operated a lo-lo service, but it subsequently switched to two dedicated, high capacity ro-ro vessels, to anticipate the growth in trade and to match customer requirements, which now has resulted in growth outstripping capacity within five months.
The decision to add a third vessel – and to add the Port of Santander in Northern Spain to the service, dovetails with the recent orders for an additional (up to) 12 vessels, to support CLdN’s business plan of growth and expansion.
BORE SEA will offer CLdN additional capacity to allow for strategic developments in preparation for the new additions to the fleets arriving from Q4 2017. Santander will be served with two direct calls per week to/from Rotterdam.
The port, with its direct, toll-free, upgraded road links to the centre of Spain and regular rail services, is seen as an ideal launch pad for a direct Spanish service, to complement the three sailings per week to/from Leixōes.
Calls to/from the Port of London will continue, but will also be upgraded to three sailings per week, in line with the Portuguese service. CLdN’s ADELINE will be added to the service to complement CATHERINE and PALATINE.
A spokesperson for CLdN stated: "This development fits with our ambition to broaden our portfolio of services, whilst building new vessels with both the adaptability to suit all trades and capacity to provide optimum, game changing solutions.
"We are convinced this expansion of the Portuguese service and creation of a new service to Santander will be a valuable addition to enhance services to our customers and help with providing more optimum, reliable and time critical solutions."
