BBC Chartering starts Australia-India service

News-in-print

Leer (Germany)-based BBC Chartering has started a new breakbulk/project cargo liner service between India and Australia with sailings offered on a monthly basis.

Vessels of about 8,000 dwt, such as bbc brisbane, will be the mainstay of the operation, which will include regular calls at ports in the Middle East Gulf (primarily the Bahrain-UAE range), Mumbai, Chennai, Port Klang and Brisbane,
with others served on an inducement basis. However, the company said that vessels could be drawn from its fleet of more than 140 ships, depending on demands and the types of cargo booked.

In the initial phases of the operation, the movement of rail carriages for the Australian state of Queensland’s ‘new generation rolling stock’ (NGR) project will provide an important cargo and drive the service network.

Svend Andersen, the carrier’s CEO, explained: “We are pleased that BBC Chartering has been selected as carrier of choice to serve this seminal project. Our agreement involves the transport of new train coaches from Mumbai to Brisbane, and to perform 18 consecutive monthly voyages for this contract.”
