MSC announces standalone East/West network, forges ties with ZIM
NewsMSC moves forward with standalone East/West trade network as Maersk advances the Gemini Cooperation with Hapag Lloyd.
Service will connect China and SE Asia with three ports on the US East Coast.
ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. has announced it will launch the “ZIM eCommerce Baltimore Express (ZXB)” later this month.
The port rotation will be: “Yantian – Cai Mep – Baltimore – New York – Boston – Yantian”. Service will be bi-weekly initially, building up to weekly “within a few months”, ZIM said.
ZIM has not yet published a schedule and vessel line up. However, its eCommerce Xpress (ZEX) service to the US west coast was launched in June 2020 and offers cargo available in Los Angeles 14 days after loading at Dachan Bay, which requires a sailing speed of over 20 knots.
“The opening of this new service is another example of our efforts to develop our speedy and dedicated premium lines, which constitute a highly competitive alternative to air freight,” Eli Glickman, ZIM President & CEO said. “As part of our vision and strategy, we are taking initiatives to support our customers especially during this difficult time of supply chain disruptions. This new line is another building block in our ZIM eCommerce eXpress lines, which we launched in 2020 with our first line from South China to Los Angeles and developed to become a network of multiple lines with the addition of the new ZXB service.”
