Verdi, ZDS reach agreement after five rounds of negotiations
NewsThe German union Verdi and ZDS reached a new labour agreement for 11,500 North Sea port workers, pending a member vote.
The small inland port of Bückeburg-Berenbusch on Germany’s Mittel-landkanal is fully open for business, following the demolition of redundant warehouses and renewal of its rail infrastructure.
The port occupies two sites aggregating 13,000 m2, and both cater for rail, barge and road transport, with links to the B482 highway and the A2 autobahn.
Two 135m-long barges and one 110m-long barge can be accommodated alongside the 400m-long quay at the same time, and trains up to 600m-long (2 x 300m tracks) can be accommodated.
The port was originally a military supply port, but the City of Bückeburg acquired a 10-ha parcel three years ago and, through its local port company, set about converting it. The port’s throughput of 200,000 tpa is now expected to grow.
