20,000 TEU mega ships for Yang Ming and HMM

Both Seoul-based Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Taipei-headquartered Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp are considering ordering ships capable of loading 20,000 TEU. The companies are conducting detailed studies into their respective plans, and argue that the bigger tonnage is needed in order for them to expand in line with the market, and have similar fleet sizes and cost bases to their larger competitors.
