BMW has begun the trial export of cars from its Rosslyn plant in South Africa via the Mozambican Port of Maputo in a move that the port authority hopes will trigger more widespread automotive exports through the port.

The Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative (MCLI) reported that 160 vehicles were transported by rail to Maputo Car Terminal (MCT) in the last week of April as the first of two trial consignments. A further 160 vehicles were imported into South Africa by the same route later that week.
