Vladivostok expanding

News-in-print

Russia’s Commercial Seaport of Vladivostok (VMTP, part of FESCO Transportation Group – now state-owned through Rostam) is increasing its fleet of cargo handling equipment and upgrading its infrastructure.

Nine all-wheel-drive Shacman terminal tractors are due to arrive from China, joining six new Sany reach stackers and three Sany heavy FLTs delivered earlier this year. The 16-1200 and 35-1200 FLTs are being used to handle a range of general cargoes and iron and steel products at the multipurpose terminal.

VTMP adopted a development programme in 2021 that envisaged the procurement of more than 170 new machines by 2025. This year alone, it was planned to receive over 70 machines, including 20 RTGs, three STS cranes, 29 terminal tractor/trailer sets, 14 FLTs and six reach stackers.

Russia’s Pacific ports have played an important role in the bilateral trade with China and their throughput has increased.

VMTP handled 13.4 Mt of various cargoes last year, including 768,000 TEU of container traffic. Container traffic this year is forecast to be 850,000 TEU.

VMTP is at the limits of physical expansion because of its proximity to the city, so, obsolete facilities are being demolished to create new ones. A new 13,500 m2  CY has been created and more yards for storing containers will be added in the next few years.
