Rail automation live in Australia
NewsQube commenced “normal automated operations” at the import/export terminal (IMEX) of the new Moorebank rail facility near Sydney in May and June this year.
Kalmar has announced its second order in a matter of days to supply container handling equipment to terminal operators working facilities on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
This order, which was booked during Q4 2023, is for three diesel-electric straddle carriers and the client is Société De Manutention et de Consignation Maritime (SOMACOM), which operates the Ile de la Réunion Terminal on the west coast of the island. Deliveries are scheduled for completion during the final quarter of this year.
The latest deal cements the close relationship that exists between Kalmar and SOMACOM with the latter company deploying a range of the Finnish company’s equipment, including four similar models of diesel-electric straddle carriers – delivered on 2021 – reachstackers, FLTs and ECHs. The new equipment will allow SOMACOM to increase the terminal’s handling capacity while controlling its emissions.
Commenting on the deal, Priscilla Damour, CEO of SOMACOM said: “Kalmar equipment has always delivered in terms of performance and availability. We are confident that the new units will continue this trend and ensure that our fleet helps us to deliver the best possible service for our customers at Réunion.”
Meanwhile, Karri Keskinen, head of global sales, Horizontal Transportation at Kalmar, said: “This repeat order for machines with identical technical specifications demonstrates how satisfied SOMACOM has been with the performance of our equipment.”
The latest order was facilitated through the services of DMP SAS, which is Kalmar’s designated dealer in the region. “I would like to highlight the important role played by DMP SAS in securing this order and continuing to provide the customer with an excellent level of local support,” said Keskinen.
