MSC to increase size gap, CMA CGM to surpass Maersk
NewsMSC is poised to increase size gap over CMA CGM, and Maersk will become the second-largest carrier; Hapag-Lloyd aims to maintain top-5 status.
In a move described by executives at CMA CGM as reflecting “market trend developments in West Africa”, the French carrier is to reshape its Asia/ West Africa liner network. The changes will become effective in early March, and they are expected to result in CMA CGM carrying more cargo on direct call services, rather than those using relay centres in the Mediterranean basin. This is despite the line cutting the number of service strings available from five a week to four.
