San Diego President and CEO on “administrative leave;” changing the guard at Aqaba; the Port of Oakland renews Board President’s term; Spain’s Bergé Group appoints new COO; new MD for BLG Automotive in Bremerhaven; HHLA sets up new green energy division; Crowley creates new post; appointment at Pangea Shipping; new EVP and CFO at Fedex; smaller Board for Konecranes; Magna Tyres appoints; and other appointments

The Board of Port Commissioners of the port of San Diego has put Jan Stuyvesant, who joined the port as President and CEO in February 2021, on “immediate paid administrative leave,” with no explanation for the move. Randa Coniglio, who served as the port’s first female President and CEO, from 2015-21, has taken over both roles from Stuyvesant in an interim capacity.

 

Aqaba, Jordan: Harald Nijhof has taken over as CEO of Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), an APM Terminals operation, from Soren Jensen, who has led ACT for the last two years. Nijhof joined APMT in 2020, following a long career in shipping and port operations, starting with posts at Nedlloyd, followed by P&O Nedlloyd and Maersk.

 

Oakland, CA, USA: The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners has elected Barbara Leslie for a second term as Board President. Yui Hay Lee has begun his second term as First Vice President, and Andreas Cluver has replaced outgoing Commissioner Cestra (“Ces”) Butner as Second Vice President.

Spanish ports operator and logistics services provider Bergé has appointed Jesús Cáceres as Operations Director, replacing Pedro García, who has taken over the running of the company’s General Business Directorate. Amongst former posts, Cáceres was Director of Operations for Africa and Europe for APM Terminals and Director of Operations at APMT Algeciras.

 

Having completed a financial restructuring of loss-making BLG Automotive Logistics Group in Bremerhaven, Jan Rosenkranz will step down from his post as interim Managing Director by the end of August. Karsten Dirks will be the new Managing Director of BLG auto terminal in Bremerhaven. He was formerly Managing Director of EVAG Emder Verkehrs und Automotive Gesellschaft (DB Schenker Group). Kai Lederer has been appointed Managing Director of BLG AutoTec.

Miami, FL, USA: Crowley has appointed Eric Cunningham as VP, shared services, a newly-created post. He joins Crowley from One Park Financial, where he was COO, International.

 

Lotfi Kefi, formerly VP, Sales and Business Development at Multitrade North Africa, has joined the Board of Tunisia-based Pangea Shipping group as Director, Project Cargo and Network activities. He previously worked for Salammbo Group and other companies in Tunisia, Libya and Algeria.

Hamburg, Germany: Jannes Elfgen and Hanno Bromeis have been appointed to lead a new division created by Hamburg Port Authority, named Port Energy solutions. Elfgen will be responsible for a “sustainable energy hub,” which covers strategic development of companies and port areas and renewable energy. Bromeis will focus on cold ironing and decarbonisation of cargo handling equipment.

 

Memphis, Tenn, USA: FedEx Corp has appointed John Dietrich, a former CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide, as EVP and CFO, effective 1 August.  He will succeed Michael Lenz, who will serve as a senior advisor until the end of this year, before retiring from Fedex. Jennifer L Johnson, Corporate VP and principal accounting officer, is taking on additional responsibilities. Leslie M Benners, SVP of finance and former CFO of FedEx Office and FedEx Services, now heads the company’s sourcing and procurement efforts. Claude F Russ, currently COO of FedEx Dataworks and former CFO of FedEx Freight, is joining the corporate Finance team as Corporate VP, Finance Transformation.

 

Topi Tiitola, Senior Vice President, Integration and Project Management, is leaving Konecranes and has stepped down from the company’s Leadership Team, but he will continue to be employed by Konecranes until 14 January 2024, to ensure smooth handover of his duties.

 

Marzia Mendini joined the Magna Tyres Group as Sales Manager, Italy & OEM. She has worked in the wheel industry for the last seven years and in that capacity has been in regular contact with Magna Tyres for several years.

 

Robert Crisci has joined US-based, multimational cold chain specialist Lineage Logistics as CFO. He was formerly EVP and CFO at Roper Technologies and previously held posts at VRA Partners, Morgan Keegan and Deloitte & Touche.

 

Hamburg, Germany: F H Bertling logistics has appointed Gerd Illing as Managing Director, Germany.
