Reach stacker in 700 kms road move

News

Msharib Shipping & Logistics, an Afghan member Of Project Cargo Logistics, recently transported a Kalmar reach stacker weighing 85 tonnes and four other pieces of equipment overland from Karachi Port to Sadiqabad in Punjab

The reach stacker weighs 85 tonnes and is also overdimensioned for road transport measuring 55ft x 15ft x 16ft

Msharib Shipping & Logistics' scope of work included: transportation, lasing and securing, loading, technical support and operations, survey and inspections, online tracking and monitoring, physical security, cooperation and arrangement with the National Traffic Highway Department, and delivery at site.

MSL and Karachi Port coordinated to find the most economical solution for the customer by managing and arranging to load the reach stacker on a low bed trailer using a handmade platform created by MSL staff at the terminal.

Calvin Wilson, Global Network Director at MSL, comments that using their own self-produced platform to unload the cargo in this way is the first time the particular operation had been performed at Karachi Port.

En route to the final destination, MSL's priority was to ensure the safety of the public and other traffic while the unit was being transported and their special escort team was assigned to travel with the cargo, which also enabled constant monitoring and communication with all stake holders during the entire journey.

Calvin continues; "Sadiqabad is a small sub-district of Rahim Yar Khan and does not have the suitable arrangements or resources to accommodate the heavy cranes needed to unload the reach stacker from the low-bed.

"The MSL team found and arranged a platform 2km away from the final destination where we offloaded the unit and delivered it safely and at the same time, made the process more economical for our customer."

  • Kalmar has reported the delivery of five new Gloria reach stackers, of which four with K-Motion drive, to Barge Terminal Tilburg (BTT) in the Netherlands. BTT is part of GVT Group and Logistics.
