While Midstream Lighting supplied the high-mast lighting for Fenix Marine Services (FMS) in Los Angeles, the company has selected Phoenix Lighting to upgrade the fixtures on its STS cranes.
Ryan Hertel, chief commercial officer at Phoenix Lighting, said the firm supplied its MRSE fixtures for the 12 Noell cranes that were delivered to APL in the mid-1990s. While they continue to perform after more than 25 years, the original MRSE fixtures still on the cranes will now be upgraded to new Phoenix EcoMod2 LED fixtures on a one-for-one basis. Phoenix also supplied EcoMod2 fixtures, as well as interior and access-way lights, for the four new ZPMC cranes FMS commissioned at the terminal in 2019.
Phoenix is well known for its rugged equipment lighting, where it works with OEMs to design and install systems for new equipment, and local partners for retrofit projects. The company is now expanding further into large-area lighting.
Phoenix already offers the Highland UL-listed and Meridian CE-compliant LED high-mast fixtures and has supplied these for ports including PNCT in New Jersey, Georgia Ports Authority and the Port of Freeport in Texas.
Phoenix is now expanding into services and support for a complete high-mast LED system as a one-stop service. Companies including Musco Lighting offer a full service for larger markets such as stadium and outdoor facility lighting, and Phoenix is building a similar offering for the port sector.
This will encompass illumination design, fixtures, wiring upgrades, as well as pre-wired rings and poles for plug-and-play field wiring where needed. Phoenix will complete projects with its in-house installation and project team, which can either manage installation, warranty and service support directly, or provide project management to selected local contractors where that is the customer’s requirement. With either option, Phoenix will offer flexibility for the port to determine the ideal scope of supply and will maintain direct responsibility for the project and warranty.
“Ports are anxious to take advantage of the cost savings from a yard lighting upgrade, but want a complete project delivered by the lighting manufacturer,” said Hertel.“Ports maximise value and reduce costs when full ownership of a successful project and future performance rests on the lighting manufacturer. Phoenix is now in an industry-leading position to provide a complete turnkey project, significantly reducing the initial costs and risks to the terminal.”
