Konecranes has acquired the business of German crane and service supplier Kocks Kranbau, giving it access to new European and global customers. The value of the sales and purchase agreement, which has just closed, is not being disclosed.

Kocks Kranbau GmbH was established in early 2023 following the insolvency of the parent company Kocks Ardelt Kranbau GmbH, a well-established port and shipyard crane manufacturer.

Kocks is a major supplier of double-level luffing cranes for bulk and piece goods handling and is the inventor of the Feeder Server, a ship-to-shore gantry crane that could be mounted on rubber tyres as well as on rails, many units of which were sold to customers in Vietnam.

It also focused on supplying intermodal RMGs to European customers. One of the oldest names in the container crane business (cf Salzgitter Kocks, Vulkan Kocks) the company has references in many parts of the world, including in North America, Israel, Chile, Turkey, Germany, and elsewhere.

Many intermodal cranes and even some STS cranes were supplied with rotating trolleys.

In recent years the annual net sales of the acquired business have totaled around EUR 10-12M, and the business has been profitable.

The acquisition will bring close to 60 employees to Konecranes, and give it access to the large installed base of Kocks Ardelt Kranbau in Germany, Europe, and globally.

“I am confident Kocks Kranbau’s expertise and customer proximity, when combined with Konecranes Port Services’ widespread presence, industry knowledge, and technology, will strengthen our position and offering as a global services provider in the port sector,” said Paolo Dazi, Senior Vice President Port Services, Konecranes.

Kocks Kranbau’s main operations are based in Bremen, Hamburg and Oberhausen, while Konecranes has headquarters in Finland.
