Ovet strikes costly labour deal

Dutch transport trade union FNV Havens reports that a labour deal has been struck with dry bulk stevedores Ovet of Flushing (Vlissingen) and Terneuzen

The new deal follows an “ultimatum” from the union side last week.

Dubbing it “the best General Labour Agreement [GLA] in years,” the four-year deal is backdated to 1st January, 2017 and runs through 2020. It follows an ultimatum and features includes an aggregate 11% pay rise, on top of inflation adjustments.

It was agreed that Ovet will maintain a minimum 63 of dockers’ staff and that temps hired-in will get paid according to the new GLA. Furthermore, the company will deposit an annual €600 per docker for five years for vocational training and education.

Ovet handles around10 Mt per annum.
