ICTSI’s VCT welcomes new MHCs
NewsNew ESP.5 Gottwald MHCs from Konecranes have arrived at Visayas Container Terminal, boosting the facility’s operational capacity.
Terminal operator adds RTGs, with an empty handler and mobile harbour crane on the way.
ICTSI operates the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) at the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental in southern Philippines. The terminal has just taken delivery of two new Mitsui hybrid RTGs, which were shipped from Mitsui’s Oita Crane Works in Japan together with eight hybrid RTGs for ICTSI’s flagship Manila terminal.
The two new machines will increase the number of RTGs at MCT to six, “improving yard productivity and overall terminal efficiency without significantly adding to the terminal’s carbon footprint,” ICTSI said.
“The hybrid RTGs make our operations more efficient and at the same time more environment friendly because of the reduced emissions, allowing us to hit both our productivity and sustainability targets. We’re also commissioning additional equipment to meet expanding capacity requirements,” said Aurelio Garcia, MCT general manager.
The additional equipment includes a new “side lifter” (empty container handler) and a mobile harbour crane that will arrive in the first half of 2023. The new MHC will augment MCT’s two quay cranes and enable the simultaneous handling of two longer vessels.
“The purchase of new equipment comes after the 100-meter berth extension and installation of dolphin mooring and inland bollards back in 2020. These improvements are all geared towards addressing the increase in volume and service demand as the global economy slowly begins to recover from the impact of the pandemic,” ICTSI concluded.
