European shortsea ro-ro freighter specialist CLdN RoRo SA has welcomed CELINE, the first of its “game-changing, super” ro-ros, with a rolling cargo intake of 8,000 lane metres. She made her maiden voyage from the Hyundai Shipyard in Korea to her home ports of Zeebrugge and Rotterdam in October. Sister ship DELPHINE will be delivered in early 2018.
CELINE will operate in a rotation encompassing both home ports, along with Dublin, London and Killingholme. The vessel’s radical and flexible design will allow greater tailoring to match customer demands, said CLdN, whilst allowing her to be adaptable and interchangeable on its expanding route portfolio.
A spokesperson stated: “We are delighted to be able to welcome the arrival of the first of 12 vessels of our fleet enhancement strategy. With the arrival of CELINE, we will now see the regular introduction of new vessels.” CELINE and DELPHINE are LNGready.
CLdN has announced that its C.RO Ports terminal in the Brittaniadok in Zeebrugge will handle UK cargo only. All other shortsea trades handled in Zeebrugge will be based at C.RO Ports’ new 36-ha terminal in the Albertdok.
C.RO Ports will also be able to expand its rail-ro offer in Rotterdam, as RailNed, the Dutch rail track authority, is handing over two on-dock train length (750m-long) tracks at the operator’s facility in the Brittanniëhaven, doubling the number of 750m tracks to four.
